The right way to clean your glasses is with cold running water, a drop of dishwashing liquid and a clean microfibre cloth. Here is how, and what to avoid, so your lenses and frames look good for longer.
How to clean your glasses
- Rinse them under cold running water first, so the dust does not scratch the lenses when you wipe them.
- Wash the lenses and the frame with a drop of dishwashing liquid, and rinse.
- Dry them with a clean cotton cloth, then finish with a clean microfibre cloth.
Wash your microfibre cloth often, without fabric softener. Never use hot water: it can crack lens coatings and dry out acetate frames.
If your lenses have our Clarity Comfort anti-fog coating, clean them only with their own anti-fog cloth, or the coating stops working. If the effect fades, hold the lenses over the steam from a mug of hot water and wipe them with the anti-fog cloth to reactivate it.
What not to do
- Do not wipe your lenses with tissues, paper towels, napkins or your clothes. Paper is made of wood pulp, and clothes pick up dust and dirt through the day. Both can scratch your lenses.
- Do not use window cleaner or anything with ammonia.
- Do not put your glasses down with the lenses facing down, or drop them loose into a bag or pocket.
- Do not wear them on top of your head or carry them in a pocket: both bend them out of shape.
- Do not leave them in a hot car.
Day to day
- Put your glasses on and take them off with both hands, so the bridge does not take the strain.
- When they are not on your face, keep them in their case.
- Pick them up by the frame, not by the lenses, so you do not smudge them.
Scratches
Every Torga lens has a scratch-resistant coat on both sides at no extra cost. Scratch-resistant is not scratch-proof, though, and scratches cannot be polished out: polishing a lens changes its power. If your lenses get scratched, bring your glasses in and we will check whether our guarantees cover them.
