Torga and Uvex
Safety Eyewear
Prescription safety glasses that protect your eyes at work and let you see clearly while you do it.
The Torga and Uvex partnership
Prescription safety eyewear, made in Cape Town
Torga Optical has partnered with Uvex, the German safety eyewear maker, to supply prescription safety eyewear to people in hazardous work, such as mining and manufacturing. We fit impact-resistant prescription lenses, made in our own lab in Cape Town, into Uvex safety frames, to the European eye protection standards.
Made in our own lens lab
Our safety eyewear lenses are made and assembled in our lens laboratory in Maitland, Cape Town. The lab is ISO 9001 registered, certified by Uvex to make its prescription safety eyewear, and licensed by SAHPRA.

What you get
Protection you can see is certified
Certified protection
Every safety lens is laser-marked, and every frame is marked to EN 166, so a safety officer can see at a glance that the pair is compliant. Our safety lenses are polycarbonate, marked EN 166F: impact resistance at 45 m/s.
Clear vision for the job
Single vision, bifocal and multifocal safety lenses, so people who need reading help or work at several distances are covered. Multifocal safety lenses suit office and laboratory workers.
The full Uvex range
Spectacles, goggles and frames from the Uvex range for each hazard, with scratch-resistant, hard-coated lenses like every Torga lens.
Each pair comes as a complete kit: a protective pouch, a microfibre cloth, user information and a certificate of compliance with EN 166.
The standards
European eye protection standards
| Standard | What it covers |
|---|---|
| EN 166 | General requirements for eye protection. |
| EN 167 and EN 168 | Optical and non-optical testing. |
| EN 169 to EN 172 | Filters for welding, ultraviolet, infrared and sunlight. |
Safety lenses go only into safety frames, and safety frames only take safety lenses, so your own frame can't be used. Safety eyewear is sold through accredited Torga practices: find a store and ask your nearest practice.
